Fate

How inevitable is it? Does free will really affect the outcome of our futures, or are our futures set in stone? A fortune teller who sees the approaching deaths of the people around him should know without a shadow of a doubt which one is true.

Muyoung, however, isn't sure he does.

Muyoung is a slightly withdrawn, dry humored scammer of a fortune teller. He makes up all of his prophecies in order to appease his patrons. However, he does possess precognition, it's just that the visions he gets are not the ones people want to hear about.

When not lying to middle aged women about the future marriages of their children, Muyoung moonlights as an exorcist and medium. He also sells a variety of medicinal concoctions (75% of which only work based on a placebo effect). While most of his shaman work is a sham, he does have an actual connection to the spiritual/supernatural world, and will take real jobs from beings that are something beyond human from time to time.

Generally speaking, Muyoung tries to keep his nose out of other people's business, but often finds himself wrapped up in helping to keep the unwitting human society and the underground supernatural one from coming at odds with one another.

His own reasons for wanting to remain withdrawn from other people's business comes from a failed childhood romance. As a young child he met a lively girl named NAME, and soon the two became inseparable. It wasn't a surprise to anyone when the two began to date early on in high school, with every indication that their relationship would lead them to an eventual marriage.

It may have, if tragedy hadn't torn their lives apart. In their final year of high school NAME's father passed away in a violent work related accident. Though Muyoung did his best to comfort her, she was beside herself with grief. It was a slip up on his part, a simple comment he didn't mean for her to fully process that allowed NAME to realize something important...

Muyoung had seen her father's death long before it had occurred. Muyoung had had the opportunity to save the man, but instead had chosen to passively stand back and let fate take its course.

NAME became infuriated, accusing Muyoung of letting her father die, ripping into him for accepting fate as inevitable, and doing nothing with his abilities to help save those who could be saved.

The relationship was shattered beyond repair, and Muyoung withdrew into himself after that. While he still interacted with people every day, he made very few close connections, and kept a wall around himself while guarding his thoughts.

The biggest one that constantly plagued his mind... how truly inevitable is fate?
